The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon

5.0

(REREAD)

Somehow I've enjoyed this book even more than I did when I first read it. And I also gave it 5 stars before.

Samantha Shannon really has the way to reach my heart with her stories, making me fall in love with her characters and scream with the emotions, few books can make me feel. Even though I knew what was going to happen next I still flew through that book.

The worldbuilding, as in the whole series is just incredible - but I think The Mime Order may even stand out a bit. I absolutely adored London that Shannon created - full of gangs, their conflicts and fights, dangerous and exciting at the same time. I loved seeing Paige navigate Syndicate again, after coming back home, I loved how she saw more and more, how corrupted it was and how, even with government's reppressions, other clairvoyants only cared about their money and pleasures.

And Paige. HOLY SHIT, PAIGE. If I could scream "That's my wife" at every single page of this book, I would. I don't think I ever seen a female character like her - determined and ambitious, actively seeking power but still flawed and emotionally complex. I loved how brave she was and how sometimes it made her reckless. I loved how, even despote being incredibly strong, she still had her doubts and fears and how she was tangled in the relationships with other people. I felt like all of her struggles just made her more interesting and more real, like she was a living young women, navigating the world that tries to destroy her, actively seeking change when everyone else gave up. Just *chief's kiss*.

And speaking of Paige's relationships with other people - I feel like they were much better than in the first book. Paige and Nick might be one my favourite book friendships. The way that they care for each other, the way that Nick always makes it clear that he would put Paige before everyone else... I just love them, okay? And her and Jaxon... I honestly forgot how hardbreaking their story is.

Considering the romantic relationship, The Mime Order still wasn't when Arcturus and Paige spoke to me but they had their moments and I enjoyed reading about them much more than I did in the bone season.
