This novel had a strong sense of place and I learned a lot about Mayotte and the islands near it. However, I didn't really care for the writing. While many book switch between narrators, I felt like this book did it awkwardly leading to a kind of jumbled timeline. Some narrators were brief blips in the novel whereas others were major characters. I also felt like I didn't really get a sense of who Moise was or what motivated him.
