The Sun and the Star by Mark Oshiro, Rick Riordan

5.0

I am very happy this book exists. This book represents so many things I don’t even know where to start. The writing was fantastic, a huge improvement from HOO (in my humble opinion), the characters were so wonderful and so well written, and the themes of healing from past trauma and accepting both the light and the darkness of life was so beautiful. There are so many people out there of all ages who could relate to Nico, or Will, or even Bob, and to have a book like this that tells them that the things they’ve went through don’t define you, and you can find peace in life even with your darkness, ugh it makes my heart sing. This hit me in a very specific spot in my heart. This book is just filled with so much love and heart, you can tell both authors were passionate about what was being written. Both Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro did a fantastic job writing such an amazing queer story about healing, acceptance and change, and it makes me emotional to think that some kid out there will pick up this book and feel seen. I feel a little healed myself after reading this. Also, this book reminded me why I want to write books so much
