The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

5.0

I tore through the book in three days. I thought it would be a arduous read cause I had seen the movie and basically know what is happening. But to my surprise, I find myself unable to stop reading. This was literally a "page-turner" for me.

Initially I was put off by the perspective of writing- it is written from the perspective of the protagonist. So anything that the protagonist does is actually narrated in her own words to us; for eg.
I swing my legs off the bed and slide into my
hunting boots. Supple leather that has moulded to my
feet. I pull on trousers, a shirt, tuck my long dark braid
up into a cap, and grab my forage bag

But soon enough I got used to the style of writing, and sometimes even started to enjoy it.

The real world parallels to this dystopian story is only too easy to make out. The themes of have's and have-not's, oppression, rebellion and revolution are laced through out the book making it a joy to read.
