Defend the Dawn
by Brigid Kemmerer
Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Now that is how you write a sequel! I absolutely adored Defy the Night when I read it last year and have been anxiously awaiting its sequel since. Somehow, I loved this book even more than the first! I was loving this book already and then I got about half-way through and BAM, everything kicked off and I could no longer put it down. The character development in this book was so good! Tessa started to learn to think for and and value herself; Corrick started to let himself open up more and be more vulnerable; and Harristan… I can’t say much about what he was up to without major spoilers but I loved it and he has become my favourite character. I was so happy with the little hints of a possible romance between Harristan and Quint because I’ve been wildly shipping them since Defy with no hope that it would ever happen. Tessa and Corrick’s romantic development was amazing too and I am hoping that Brigid is kind enough to give them a happy ending (please, Brigid, you’ve hurt them enough). Unlike in Defy, I saw none of the twists (and there were many of them) coming but I loved every single one of them, the ending especially and that ending has left me craving more from this world! I need book 3 as soon as is humanly possible. I absolutely adore the political/royal aspects of this series as it something that fascinates me greatly, I know not everyone wants to read politics in fantasy books, but I absolutely do, give me more! I adored every single part of this book and cannot recommend it enough. It has definitely made its way on to the list of my favourites this year! As always, Brigid never fails.
