This was a really good "who-dunnit" mystery. Even though this story was originally published in 1918, it still stands the test of time being quite the page turner. I also appreciated the afterword explaining Tanizaki's inspiration from Edgar Allan Poe's The Gold Bug, as well as explaining some of Keith Vincent's translations. I'm looking forward to reading more by this author (Tanizaki).
