Casanova the Complete Edition Volume 1: Luxuria by Matt Fraction

3.0

Doesn’t quite work for me as a whole book. The overall narrative was cluttered and the editorializing by Matt Fraction was distracting, but this isn’t a book to be read in chunks. The singles feel classic in terms of their approach, one shot stories with loose ties to an overall narrative. It’s classic serialized story telling. I respect the book for that and the collaborators Matt Fraction worked with. Gabriel Bá kills this book on art, the colors by Cris Peter are gorgeous and the hand lettering by Dustin Harbin is astonishing. I did like a bunch of the ideas presented in the story and really hope Fraction reigns it all in better as these hardcovers progress.
