A Dance Like Starlight: One Ballerina's Dream by Kristy Dempsey

4.0

African-American little girl who dreams of becoming a ballerina in the 1950's when "colored" girls weren't allowed to share the stage with whites, gets to see Janet Collins break the color barrier and perform on stage at the Met. Short text means the story is slight, but the art is amazing, and it's nice to find a book that introduces kids to a less-well-known African-American hero.
