Yes, tremendously enjoyable; but I with huge plot holes.
If you are a watch-captain and hold a prisoner for whom there is a reward, and the person who has promised the reward offers only a promissory note and you do not trust the promissory note or the person who offers it, surely you tell him to go away and get the cash and come back when he has it.  What you don’t do is send the prisoner in insecure caging through the deep dark bandit-infested woods with two of your own guys to collect the gold and bring it back through the deep dark bandit-infested woods.  You just wouldn’t do that, would you?
So the whole premise of the book was rather flawed … and that thought stayed with me as the whole time that I was reading it.
