The Amityville Horror
by Jay Anson
2.5⭐ rounded up to 3
This read like an essay almost. Just a very straightforward recounting of the events that occurred in Amityville. The liberal use of exclamation points kind of took away from the scary parts. It felt like someone was trying really hard to jump scare you, but you saw them before they even jumped out.
When I started reading this book, I forgot that it was written in 1977. There are definitely a couple of moments where there's a culture shock. Be on the lookout if you're triggered by child abuse, specifically.
