A Hundred Thousand Words by Nyrae Dawn

4.0

I liked this a lot! I really like characters like Levi, who aren't afraid to love and talk about their feelings and fight for what they want. So many romance novels seem to be allergic to characters who admit their feelings and are open and honest. The conflict in the story came from elsewhere; Tobias' completely contrary attitude towards talking about his feelings and how he had to come to learn to use his words, Levi's uncertainty about the path his life is taking, the relationship between Tobias and Chris. I loved that too; best friends who so totally loved one another, and having that conflict when it came to Levi. I also really liked the fact that the book concentrated on showing how Tobias made changes in his life, in his relationship with his father, his room-mate and his college friends. And the romance was really sweet; I really really felt like I saw them falling in love as it happened!

Some of the resolutions were waaaaaaaay too phoned in (like Chris and Levi handling their stuff off screen) and for someone who supposedly really loved literature I feel like we hardly ever saw that part of Tobias' life. But all in all this was a really good read, and I'm glad I got it. I listened to the audiobook as read by Sean Crisden, who has a really appealing voice (though his actual reading left something to be desired sometimes).

3.5 stars.
