The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar
4.0
YA + henna + sapphic romance!
Nishat’s parents aren’t okay with her being a lesbian because Muslims aren’t queer. Things get harder when an old friend walks back into her life.
A school competition for students to create their own businesses puts Nishat & Flávia against each other both with a henna business, even though Flávia is appropriating Nishat’s culture.

✨Ireland setting
Genuinely I should never wait so long to write reviews. I finished this one nearly three weeks ago & I only remember so much of it.
I loved the MC & side characters.
I loved the setting & premise of the book.
I loved learning more about culture.
I loved the queer aspect, and the dynamics of her parents’ journey with it.
Absolutely recommend this one!
Location: Ireland
Content warnings: anti-queer/bi/lesbian/Islam; racism; culture appropriation; bullying; outing; religious bigotry; hate crime; toxic friendships
