Feel the Heat by Cindy Gerard

4.0

DIA Agent B. J. Chase is licking the wounds to her professional ego after a botched mission in Caracas, confounded by the BOI team led by Rafe Mendoza. Her next assignment is her chance to erase that memory and she's teamed with NSA cryptanalyst Stephanie Tompkins for an undercover operation. While the operation is a success, it becomes extremely dangerous for Stephanie and you know what happens next...yes, enter the BOI team.

I continue to be impressed with this series. There was intelligent intrigue involving a unique threat that wasn't predictable. B. J. is an enigma, tough as nails and extraordinarily skilled but emotionally crippled. Matching her with the BOI team made things highly interesting and I loved her relationship development with Rafe. It felt authentic even when she was the most frustrating. I liked the balance of suspense and romance with the scales tipped heavily towards the action.

This was a really good story with lots of tense and scary moments. B. J. was a very well developed character that fit in nicely. It'll be interesting to see how she factors into future books.
