The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi

4.0

It painted an exceptional word picture. Very descriptive, even sublime use of language. Like the Boy With the Porcelain Blade; but with a plot that was much more complex, in a world borne of much greater detail.

I loved Maya, despite her flaws, or maybe because of them. As she embarks upon an adventure to forge her place in the world, she discovers the weight of her past. This plot was full of twists and turns, a very entertaining, very immersive read.

And yet.

There were several parts that felt incomplete. Not so much a thought unfinished as a thought that had been finished and then altered. Like something was removed. And then left like a wound unhealed. Like a puckered scar. You can tell that something was there, that there was something more. And it happens more than once or twice: maybe a dozen times. It's like a hole, a paragraph that was just removed, and the story not smoothed over.

But despite all that complaining, this is still an excellent story. A four-plus star book.

Call it 4.5
