Arthur's Dream Boat by Polly Dunbar

4.0

I love Polly Dunbar's picture books. This one comes at a very opportune time--we're gearing up for our Summer Reading Program and the 2012 theme will be "DREAM BIG...READ!"

No, that's not a weird boat-hat on the kid's head on the cover of the book. Arthur dreams of a boat, and his dream boat is shown in the illustrations right above his head.

This is somewhat reminiscent of last year's [b:Blackout|10168924|Blackout|John Rocco|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327932758s/10168924.jpg|15067694] because we have a child trying to get the attention of his family, all of whom are too wrapped in their own stuff to pay him any mind. But this book is more fantastical. The boat of Aruthur's dream gets embellished, and eventually reality turns into the dream and Arthur's whole family joins him on his boat.

One thing I love about this book is how big it is. It will be great for story time, even with all the wordless pages at the end.
