Bad Mother: A Chronicle of Maternal Crimes, Minor Calamities, and Occasional Moments of Grace by Ayelet Waldman

4.0

Great footnotes, educational topics (when I couldn't already relate), and a straightforward, fluid style make for an enjoyable read on a topic that can grow tedious but does not in this case.

I appreciate Ms. Waldman's equal-parts honesty about the good, the bad, the heartbreaking, and the mortifying aspects of parenting. As I read, I often worried about the backlash she was opening herself to, and marveling at how that snippet of writing advice (write close to the bone, the more raw the more interesting) is true.

I cried. I giggled. I sympathized. I felt validated.
