Good Boy: My Life in Seven Dogs by Jennifer Finney Boylan

adventurous emotional funny hopeful informative inspiring lighthearted reflective relaxing sad tense medium-paced

3.5

Charming, reflective, and touching reflection on the lessons taught by beloved pets through different life stages that left me wanting to hug all the puppers and Ms. Finney Boylan who I always heard referred to fondly back in my days as a university student--sadly not at one they taught at. As a 'dog person without a dog' (yes I felt attacked by that question ;) ) I greatly was touched by the truths I had held and also amused and relieved that sometimes not being the person with a two sided bond that we mythologize if not straight up being the object of necessary disdain is less lasting or important than being with one another itself.

Bonus points for even in very serious manners and times of strife, there is a jovial ability to find humor and reflective but loving self deprecation that feel so very human and relatable.
