Copra: Round One by Michel Fiffe

4.0

Rereading this in 2023:

This is a four star colored pencil art book. It's a great homage to 80s comics drawn in a unique style that really pulls you in.

The story is nonsense. The characters are forgettable even though their designs are fantastic. I had zero desire to keep reading the story when I got to the ened of the volume because absolutely nothing had stuck with me as I read it.

I see people comparing it to [b:Doom Patrol, Vol. 1: Crawling from the Wreckage|22355|Doom Patrol, Vol. 1 Crawling from the Wreckage|Grant Morrison|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1543991820l/22355._SY75_.jpg|23381] and [b:Suicide Squad: From the Ashes|3099738|Suicide Squad From the Ashes|John Ostrander|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348903191l/3099738._SY75_.jpg|92242309], but those had recognizable plots and solid characters. This is just kind of Generic Badass Superpeople are freamed for crime and must work together to ... umm ... to do something, I guess because otherwise why does this book exist?

The art bumps this up from two to four stars. I own the next five volumes of this series, so I'll at least flip through them and see if it gets better, but the first volume does not give me high hopes.
