The Real Story of Ah-Q and Other Tales of China: The Complete Fiction of Lu Xun by Lu Xun

reflective

3.0

As with all short story collections, I really liked some of these, but felt absolutely nothing about others. I really liked the title story: The Real Story of Ah Q, and also White Light and the second last one about the heads in the cauldron. I feel like most of these require a lot of careful reading and background knowledge and analysis, which I definitely did not have the energy for after the first half of the book.

For a translated work, I actually quite liked the prose. Although there's an inordinate amount of million dollar words that I had to search up - I'm guessing due to words not translating nicely to English.

Overall, I liked this! I just didn't have the patience to slowly work through it closely enough to appreciate it fully.
