My biggest critique of this novella is that I wish it was longer. I was very intrigued by the circumstances of this world, but I did not understand how we got here. Why did we revert to a Wild West style world, complete with horse and buggy? Is it a consequence of climate change? Is this a question that the author didn't want to have to answer logistically? Whatever the reason, I think the book was lacking context. It seems like a huge stretch to imagine a world that had regressed not only politically, but seemingly temporally as well.
I also wish we got more insight into the core relationships. It is cool to include a triad and a f/f relationship, as well as include NB rep, but I want to get to know these characters better. Clearly, I am interested in different things than the author was wanting to explore, but it ended up leaving me a bit dissatisfied. This seemed like a small story in a huge world begging for further exploration. Maybe they will decide to write subsequent works in this world.
