Once I Was You: A Memoir of Love and Hate in a Torn America by Maria Hinojosa

5.0

this book is amazing, raw, and insightful. I saw María speak at the ALA conference in DC this year and she was absolutely extraordinary and ignited a fire in everyone in the audience. Her book does the same. Pulling back the curtain of her public image and exposing her feelings of imposters syndrome and personal hardships was an eye opener and made me feel very seen. Her career as a journalist and her work on immigration and the rawness of her storytelling makes you really feel her emotions during the time. she tells our stories and i see my own family reflected in this book. This is a must read memoir.
