Hey, Hun: Sales, Sisterhood, Supremacy, and the Other Lies Behind Multilevel Marketing by Emily Lynn Paulson

informative reflective medium-paced

3.5

I was expecting more from this book. I kept waiting for it to get juicy. But it just felt flat.

As an avid anti-MLM consumer I really thought this book would bring a new interesting perspective but it was just boring. The Dream podcast and YouTubers I’ve watched are more entertaining.

I also just found it to feel real empathy for the author. Her “remorse”? Or “disgust” for the MLM practices didn’t really come across as genuine. It was kind of like she put in those phrases to satisfy the people who told her that it was gross behavior, not that she truly believed it. And I listened to the audio which is narrated by herself…and the voice still felt forced.

And even while I think her take on white supremacy and its role in mlms was a valid and somewhat unique take, it just felt really out of place, like it wasn’t authentic for her to speak on it.

I don’t know. It just all seemed really flat. Like “oh feel bad for me because I was super successful in the MLM, but I came to my senses.”
