The Red Pony by John Steinbeck
4.0

I picked this up again after reading it in high school. Steinbeck, as always, is both economical and evocative in his writing. The book is actually four interrelated short stories about the same characters on the same ranch with coming-of-age and end-of-life themes. I can't imagine who wouldn't enjoy reading this book.
