In the Sight of Akresa by Ray Wood

5.0

Brutal. It starts with a description of physical brutality, the cutting out of a slave's tongue. What follows should feel like a soothing balm after that beginning. But...is the narrator entirely reliable? Not out of malice or madness, simply privilege and entitlement. And this all leads to an ending that's emotionally brutal.
