1.5 stars: i was tempted to dnf about twenty percent through but unfortunately decided to stick with it and dislike it ! prudence, the main character, is terrible and childish in a way that makes this book read like middle grade, and her love interest quint (i rarely ever say this) is too good for her lmao. the side characters, especially morgan, are incredibly one-dimensional and poorly developed: you can’t just make someone’s entire personality Being Vegan, as much as some people have. it really seems like the author was trying to divert the popular media reference tropes by referencing things that have already solidified in popular culture, like the beatles, but the whole book read like a cross between a john lennon love letter and a middle schooler’s fundraising attempt, with prudence’s nonstop talk of cost-benefit analysis, not to mention the cultural insensitivity of having white characters control “karma” as a fun little quirk ,, and the “plot twist” at the end could have been predicted a mile away, and the resolution to it was so half-baked: would not recommend !
