A really fascinating read that delved deep into Janie’s tragic life and the community around her. I found the use of animalization to be really fascinating — the imagery of Janie as the mule and Tea Cake as the rabid dog were tragically done, yet some of that hope intertwined with the image of the mule was really interesting, too. I ended up writing my final paper about that topic because it stuck out to me so much. I can see why this book has been considered a classic in modern times.
