Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel by James Luceno
5.0

This book is a must read before Rogue One. People say you can't get the full impact, but you're entering Rouge One at a later part in the story. Think of Rogue One as a visual sequel to this book. That is why I am excited to see it now more than ever.

Catalyst is a beautiful title for a perfect book. James Luceno's writing is on point, and once again he shows the new-canon/Lucasfilm under Disney why he is one of the best people to hire.

The 'Catalyst' is Galen. He is part of a plot that will allow the Imperial named Krennic a future of greater standing. Krennic is a snake, probably one of my new favorite baddies of Star Wars Imperial lore, right behind good ol' Tarkin. The way he orchestrates things behind the scenes to fuck up the family of Galen is so deliciously evil. He reminded me at times of Iago from Othello, he was always out of the picture and so many people fell victim to his schemes all in the process of bringing Galen into a circle that he never wanted to be a part of.

I'd say more about the book but I feel it would give something away. This is a book that I feel needs to be experienced before heading into Rogue One. So, just take it from me, you need to read this book so that when Jyn has a time to shine, you await that beautiful moment when she faces off against Krennic and gets dirt all over that spotless white uniform of his.
