Elon Musk by Walter Isaacson

5.0

I can’t say that I’m a huge Elon Musk fan, and prior to reading this book, I mostly based my opinion on short snippets I read on the news. After reading this biography I have to say that, while Musk has some terrible qualities (don’t we all?), he is a fascinating and brilliant individual.

Written by Walter Isaacson, I found this biography to be quite engaging and had a hard time putting it down. In the author’s note at the end, Isaacson mentioned that Musk gave him full access to his contacts, told him nothing was off-limits, and didn’t read the book before it was published. This, to me, lends to the authenticity of the book.

It’s clear that Musk is an absolute genius. I mean, I could say I want to build a rocket that goes to the moon, but to actually be able to create that dream is unfathomable to me. Musk is absolutely hands on with all of his companies (I think he runs SEVEN of them!!), and he is willing to take risks (some that would kind of freak out a normal person), but through these risks, he hs advanced our technology far quicker than one would expect.

Just to give you an idea of the breadth of Musk’s scope: Tesla and self-driving cars, solar panels and power packs for your home, SpaceX and rockets to the moon (and hopefully to Mars someday), AI and robots, NueraLink and chips in our brains, X (formerly known as Twitter), tunnel boring technologies, robotaxis and cyber trucks, StarLink and internet…I mean, is there anything he can’t do!?

It’s incredible how powerful this man is, how he influences people and countries, and what he hopes to accomplish in the future. I, for one, am intrigued and will be paying much more attention to him in the future. (Fun fact: it’s been announced that a movie based on the information on this book is now in the works…I can’t wait!)
