Last Train to Paradise: Henry Flagler and the Spectacular Rise and Fall of the Railroad That Crossed an Ocean by Les Standiford

5.0

I lived in Miami when I was young and knew Flagler was someone important because his name is everywhere but never knew exactly who he was. Turns out if it wasn't for Flagler there would be no Miami, he was so instrumental in developing Miami that they wanted to name it after him. This book is about the deadly 1935 hurricane but it's also about Flagler and just how important he was to the development of Florida. There's a lot about Flagler's personal life and also a lot about the Key West Railroad that he funded and built. This book was very well written and interesting to read, the details made it come alive plus there were pictures! I love a non-fiction book with pictures!
