The Opposite of Innocent by Sonya Sones

3.0

Lily is in love with her father’s best friend, Luke. Luke has been doing research in Kenya and hasn’t seen Lily in two years and she has grown up in that time. When he sees her, he is pleased. Since he is back in the country with no place to stay, he stays with Lily’s family.

This does a good job of showing the stages of grooming. How the perpetrator isolates and uses guilt and threats. Lily is only fourteen and not sure of herself, but she believes Luke would not hurt her. He’s her dad’s best friend right? He’s known her since she was a baby. But what once felt secret and exciting turns frightening and sullied.

The afterward offers great resources.
