Holly by Stephen King

5.0

Man, Stephen King can write! I’m not a completist - not even close - but I’ve read his memoir, 11/22/63, and a few others, and can say they’ve all equally captured my attention!

Apparently, Holly was a character from a previous novel, but Kings fans loved her so much and wanted more. King delivered and this book is centered around Holly, the independent private detective.

When Penny hires Holly to investigate her daughter’s sudden disappearance, little does she know how sinister this case is going to get. With COVID taking over the world, the police were quick to dismiss Bonnie’s disappearance as more of a runaway case, but Penny isn’t satisfied with that explanation, and neither is one of her friends. As Holly gets closer and closer to the truth, she begins to wonder if she’s really dealing with a serial killer.

It all comes together in an explosive ending that made my skin crawl. I was reminded how well King can weave a tale, and just how good his writing is. I’m starting to this book on quite a few of end-of-the-year lists, so I was happy to see it on my library’s shelves. It was the perfect thriller to end my year on!
