This Woven Kingdom by Tahereh Mafi
5.0

Dare I say it? 6 STARS!!!! I finished this book a few days ago and have not stopped thinking about it since. I have had some time to gather all of my thoughts because I really want my review to do the book justice!

There are SO many amazing things about this book.

The setting is rich.
The descriptions are exquisite.
The vibes are immaculate.
The writing is beautiful.
The plot is fantastic.
The world is clever.
The cast of characters are amazing
But the FMC is refreshing -- and she is perfection. Absolute pure perfection.

When you do ALL of these things well, it has to be a 5 star, but honestly, the main character made it a 6 star read for me. This has become an all-time favorite read for me and I cannot wait to finish the series. I AM OBSESSED!

Every character in this story is intentional and has their place. And as you get closer to the end of the book, you can see how Tahereh Mafi has taken so much care in creating this story. The FMC did me in. LISTEN! I love a bad a$$ female character, but most are cut throat (and often understandably so). Then there are the incredibly soft-spoken and insecure females that cannot stand up for themselves. Alizeh is the PERFECT balance of the two. It is so refreshing to have a strong female lead that is also kind, compassionate, empathetic and merciful. She is SO kind. She is thoughtful. She is understanding and always tries to see the other character's perspective. I find that very rare. I just love her... and then you have Kamran who also stands up for himself, tries to do the right thing, and is completely infatuated with our FMC. He wants to do better ALL of the time for her. AND - we cannot forget about the comedic relief from Hazaan and Miss Huda. Miss Huda had me laughing out loud! The cast of characters are the perfect combination. They are priceless.

I found this story to be very unique. It's different from your standard fantasy and it's very rich in culture. We love to read outside the our standard little bubble.

This was a high 4 star for me until I read this inner monologue:

"Alizeh did not enjoy killing people. She did not take lightly the death of any living being, for not only was it a difficult and exhausting business, but it left her tremendously sad. Alizeh had tried, over the years, only to injure, never to kill. She'd tried over and over to negotiate. She tried always to be merciful. They laughed in her face every time. Alizeh had learned the hard way that an unprotected woman of small stature and low station would never be treated with respect by her enemies. They thought her stupid and incapable; they saw only weakness in her for being kind. It never occurred to most people that Alizeh's compassionate spirit was wrought not from a frail naivete', but from a ferocious pain. She did not seek to steep in her nightmares. She sought instead, every day, to outgrow them. And yet never once had her offers of mercy been accepted. Never once had others set aside their darkness long enough to allow Alizeh to reprieve from her own".

This quote changed everything for me. I read this to multiple people in my life. THIS WAS MY 5 STAR FEELING! So many beautiful quote that were worth of highlighting!!!

I will end this - way too long - review on a swoon-worthy note... "I will build a bridge. I can clear a path" <3 <3 <3
