The Untamed: A Sinner's Prayer by Joshua Cozine, Sebastian A. Jones, Peter Bergting, Andrew Cosby, Darrell May

3.0

So I have very complicated feelings about this book because I was told about the world of Asunda and the amazing character Niobe. I went into this book thinking about how big and complex the world is, and how deep the story and characters are. I was told that the story and world are like "Game of Thrones meets Star Wars with some D&D in there". Okay, there should probably be a red flag if you are trying to serve off a fantasy story as "the next Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings" or what have you, and to then bring Star Wars into it really makes things convoluted.

I did not hate this book, but I do feel the pacing and paneling were too confusing for an introduction into this story. I couldn't tell when something was a flashback until afterwards, which made me feel like I had to go back and reread the passage (which you should never make your reader feel that way unless they loved it so much).

When this book was introduced to me as a very diverse story and is equally focused on people of color I was even more excited, because there's a major lack of that in fantasy. However, the majority of characters were white, and not a single one likable or interesting. I was really hoping for more, and I hope I see that in the other comics, but to be honest I'd be very surprised.
