White Teeth by Zadie Smith

It took me forever to read this book. Not because I read it slowly, but because I really didn't like it. I got about half way through then decided life is too short to read books I don't enjoy and then set it aside. But I have this where unfinished stuff really bug me, so in the back of my mind (and from my shelf) this book would taunt (ie haunt) me for not having finished it and so I picked it up again and picked up where I left off.

I felt like I just read someone's family history, and not really in a good way. It just went on and on and on about the different families and how everyone came together and squabbles and this book really just didn't do it for me.

The second half of the book I found more interesting, so that's why it got the second star. I know it's highly lauded as a debut novel, but I wasn't impressed however I am willing to give her other works a try with the hopes that I'll better appreciate her writings as she matured as an author.

Totally random, but finding out we share a birthday did endear her to me a bit.
