This was a really good listen to me. I loved the way she was the historian of her family and added the necessary context. Written in a simple, straightforward way but delivering a deeply insightful and textured history of the families she was born into, married into, and all the many women…black, white, mexican, indigenous, immigrant…who helped generations survive with sacrifice, hard work, good food…through violence, tragedy, loyalty, decisions and their consequences, crushing oppressive systems and their brute force determined to destroy everything in its path.
She wrote this memoir for her daughters. Such a gift.
