Miguel and the Grand Harmony by Matt de la Peña

5.0

Miguel and the Grand Harmony is such a vibrant story! Not only is it the bright colors of each page that give it such a festive tone but also the way the book is written. The personification of La Musica as the narrator is done so beautifully, it feels like she flows from each page to the next. And the only time the vibrancy leaves the page is when La Musica is shooed away and goes back into a colorless nothing. La Musica works its way into Miguel's heart and becomes his great passion and he learns to follow it even in the face of obstacles.

Another thing I loved about this book was how it blended in some Spanish with the English and showed various parts of Miguel's culture and the importance he places on his family. I cannot wait to see the movie Coco when it is released this November!
