The Other Side of the Mirror by Dana Evyn

4.0

I FLEW THROUGH THIS BOOK. I was up reading until the wee hours of the night regardless of my adult job in the morning expecting me to be a full rested adult. This is the first book in the a long time that really really scratched the fae romantasy itch. The first installment in The Mirror Trilogy centers around our main female character, Eva (Evangeline). On her seventeenth birthday, her parents had sat down her and her twin brother, Tobias, to tell them something important when suddenly their house catches fire and they have to run for their life. In this moment, Eva's mother ushers her towards a mirror to go through. As Eva and Tobias are trying to fight their mother on leaving her everything explodes into chaos and they are all separated. Eva falls into the mirror and lands in her best friend's house, Quinn. Fast forward seven years later, Eva is celebrating her 24th birthday and finds her grief unbearable despite being surrounded by her friends and all the things she loves. That fateful night she meets Bash and is told she is betrothed to a Fae Prince, Aviel and he is tasked with bringing her back to him so that their union can save the world. Meeting Bash thrusts Eva down a journey she never expected of danger, laughter, love, tears, new friends and discovering her true destiny.

I love love love this book and I am honestly so excited for the second installment! This as such a fantastic read filled with some of my favorite tropes like:
-fated mates
-hidden fae
-One horse
-forced proximity
-Dual POV
-Shadow Daddy
-Found Family
-healing traumas
-"I will kill him if I ever see him again"
-FMC who saves herself

I could not put this book down! The tension between the two main characters, Eva and Bash, was some of the best tension writing I have seen yet. I was practically begging for them to just kiss by chapter 10! The romance of this book was the peak part of this book along with the reveal of the villains plan and the twist of it all. I loved Evyn's writing and her ability to write and the flow of the story never feels dull or stops. I was never bored one time and was completely captivated by the characters. There is lots of representation for POC characters and a lesbian relationship, from the first book it seems like the inclusion will only increase. I highly recommend this book it is exactly what I needed, it was complex but enjoyable at the same time. Whilst the main focus of the first book seemed to be the romance and the fantasy world was slowly built while the reader was falling for the romance, I hope to see an expansion of the fae world and the magic system and mirror magic in the next book(s).

*thank you for the eARC from Dana Evyn in exchange for an honest review.
