Bela Lugosi's Dead by Robert Guffey

4.0

3.5/5 rounded to 4 for Goodreads

Calling all classic Universal Monster movie fans: this is the book for you!

Thank you @netgalley for providing me with the review ebook. I love the classic movie monsters, which is what brought me to the book and why I stayed.

Bela Lugosi's Dead has two storylines that alternate with frequency. The main storyline follows a writer and Lugosi fan named Mike who is brought from the brink of defeat in Hollywood  by an aspiring actress and a lead about a story. The second storyline takes places in the 40's and follows the monsters themselves!

You won't believe how these stories intersect and the ending is a bang-whizzer! All out monster madness!

This book was a lot of fun, but I do wish the storylines crossed a little sooner and that I knew a little bit more about the Universal Monster movies going into this book. As a fan, I've seen many of the movies and I loved when I got the references placed throughout, but I still felt left out of the inside jokes sometimes.

Bottom line: Bela Lugosi's Dead has all the fun and madness you want in your monster stories! I definitely recommend it if you consider yourself a classic monster movie buff.
