The title of this book completely overhypes the story. This title is like when you're surfing the internet and you come across an article where the title makes it seem like a celebrity revealed a huge secret, but once you read it, you find out that the celebrity only changed her diet/turned vegan. When you first noticed the title you were excited, but once you read the content you're disappointed and slightly angry. Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist is like that.
Is Skylar a virgin? Yes.
Is she a columnist? Yes.
Is the column about sex? Sort of, it focuses on dating, but references to sexual activities increase readership.
Are there confessions in the story? If you want to use that word, then sure. I would call them assertions instead, but that's simply because when I think of confessions, I expect a level of darkness and secrecy along with them. I expect the statement to be something that would surprise the listener, not something that would have the person respond with "And?" or "Ok, your point is?"
What I'm trying to say is the story doesn't revolve Skylar's confessions or Skylar being a virgin sex columnist. The latter is simply characteristics that could be used to describe Skylar. Mostly, the story shows a girl who has recently moved to New York City with her best friend trying to navigate the dating pool and take control of her (non-existent) love life for the sake of her job. There are no snippets of Skylar's articles and there are few references to the column. The story itself is good, although this is a scenario where the author could really throw in some dramatics, but when Marie reveals the tension between Skylar and Oliie, it's an eye-roll moment. In other words, it's nothing to get excited over.
All in all, Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist is a quick, light read so don't expect too much from it.
