Child of Fire by Harry Connolly

4.0

A little darker than many of the urban fantasy books I've read, but good. Nothing was too predictable, it wasn't too easy, and I liked that the main character was figuring out how magic worked while the reader was, so it didn't involve a lot of long winded explanations, just minor revelations. I'll be checking out the rest in the series.

2nd read: It's a lot more obvious that the prequel the author wrote was at least planned if not already written when he published this one. That's not bad, but I'd maybe recommending starting with that one first to anyone else I recommend this to. I like how things don't turn out perfect, there are repercussions to bad people doing bad things that you just can't undo, without it being too depressing (still depressing though).
