Animosity Hardcover Year One by Marguerite Bennett

The Wake has been remembered as the day when every living creature “woke up” with the ability to think, speak, and act on their thoughts just like humans. You think this would be amazing until you remember the actions taken by the food industry, deforestation, the fishing industry, and so much more. Many animals are pissed and seeking revenge. Luckily for Jesse, her dog Sandor will do everything in his power to protect her. The only issue is that they need to get her to her brother on the other side of the country and there are many dangers awaiting them on that journey.

I was surprised by how quickly I was consumed by this story. I had picked up a short from this world for Free Comic Book Day and instantly knew I need to get my hands on the first bind up after reading it. I’m such a sucker for good world building and an eye for details. The author’s incorporation of a wide diversity of animals had me researching species I never heard of and reflecting on the ways society rely on animals for so many things. My favorite part though was the end where it break downs all the countries across the world and all the states in the United States and explain what happened in each. I’m really excited to learn more and can’t wait to get the next volume in the near future!
