That's Not What Happened by Kody Keplinger

I felt some issues really could have been fleshed out a bit more. It’s a difficult topic but if you’re going to tackle it, then do it fully. I appreciated getting a glimpse of high school today in this terrifying era as we didn’t do drills or anything when I was in high school. I liked that they never gave the shooters name but aside from that the author seemed afraid to tackle this head on. For example, the victim who was the shooters best friend. I was shocked it was only mentioned in passing; it would have been interesting to explore. It’s also unfathomable that Sarah was buried with Kelly’s necklace. I understand keeping the story alive, but at that point Kelly’s parents would have gotten involved. I also think it was unrealistic to suggest a town would harass a victim to the point of having to flee. Idn. On the one hand you can understand why a child wouldn’t want to recount details, but really the most interesting parts were Denny’s (best character) recounting. I felt like I knew him best even though he wasn’t our narrator.
