The Magic of Marie Laveau: Embracing the Spiritual Legacy of the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans by Carolyn Morrow Long, Denise Alvarado

inspiring reflective medium-paced

5.0

I got the physical copy of this book unsure whether it was going to be more academic or spiritual, and I was delighted at the fact that I found a balanced combination. I appreciated that the author delved into the life of Marie Laveau, dispelling many untruths, and also discussed how one might devote themself to her. I also appreciated the many images the author includes, some of which I expect might have been very personal, such as the image of her altar.
I found the section at the end where Alvarado encourages us to write down our stories before they are lost to us to be particularly moving and I felt it on a personal level.
