Earth Strike by Ian Douglas

3.0

I finished this book and have continued the series, it's gotten better, or at the very least it managed to rope me in.

It's a bit worrying when you're less than 30 pages in to the book and it suggests a planet with a radius 1.9x that of Earth and a density 0.973 that of Earth would have a mass of only 1.8 Earths.

The series tries to get more involved in a lot of science but doesn't really understand it all, which is unfortunate. The Lost Fleet doesn't try as hard to be "sciency" and benefits from it. Sure, it's a bit daft, repetitive, and silly too but is much more likable in comparison.

I'm on book three now and it's not a bad series but I'd suggest you go read the Lensman series and see it done right decades ago.
