The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas

4.0

This fell between a 3.5-4 stars for me. Part of me wishes I didn't read this after Kingdom of Ash because the Throne of Glass series was one of my favourite series ever, but this book was pretty far below any of the others. I think my expectations were way too high, because I don't feel like I learned much about any of the characters. Celena honestly didn't seem as strong or intimidating as she had been made out to be throughout the series... the story with Sam was just okay (but maybe that's because I loved her stories with Chaol, Doran and of course Rowan)... and I was just not that impressed?
I still love the writing style, and I do think if I had read this in the publication order (between Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows), I maybe (probably?) would have loved it.
