The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin

mysterious tense fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated

5.0

I listened to the audiobook in a day- it's only 4 hours. This is a quick bite, but delicious!

The story takes place over four months but moves quickly. Tension builds at a very controlled pace throughout, leaving the reader on edge the whole way through.

I did feel like the (real) characters were one-dimensional, however I think that in this case it was a narrative device due to the overall satirical, plain-faced nature of the book.

This did not help me trust men. Gaslight, gatekeep, replace your wife with a sexy housekeeping robot.
