The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang

4.0

4.5! RF Kuang has me in a chokehold. This story is uncomfortable and hard to stomach, but I can appreciate that when writing a story about a country torn apart by war, the atrocities committed aren't sugarcoated. It is a hard one to stomach, it can feel just so heavy, and the whole thing is very disturbing at times. Despite this, she writes these topics incredibly well and you can feel the intent in every scene. I love when an author doesn't shy away from disturbing topics and leans straight into them. I appreciate the boldness, and in this case, I think it paid off.
