A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson

informative lighthearted medium-paced

3.0

It was okay. My biggest turnoff was how arrogant the author is at various points. I've outgrown thinking rants where you make fun of other people are funny. Like, cool. You think Europe is better than America. And you think you're better than Americans because you've lived in Europe.

Some criticism is warranted: park services need to be better, preservation should be better, cities should be walkable. That's all valid and dealt with well enough. What isn't necessary is whining about fat people and how ugly things are and how stupid you think Americans are. It's pathetic.

Also, p sure he complained for the entire book about one thing or another. Exhausting. Not funny.

Still, it was informative when he wasn't being a jerk about things.
