The focus here isn’t so much on the romance between Eddie and Carmen but more on Eddie figuring out what’s important to him and who he wants to be after getting out of jail. Eddie is young (I think he’s supposed to be 23) and it does feel like it; he makes a few stupid decisions along the way that he regrets almost immediately. I liked that he was pretty low-level in ESHB, compared to a lot of mafia romances where it’s the head guy. I thought it made his character arc and choices much more interesting.
