Catwoman, Vol. 2: Dollhouse by Judd Winick

2.0

This is not a good book and I really cannot recommend it. "Dollhouse" is the second volume of the Catwoman title in DC's New 52 reboot. Unfortunately, New 52 was very uneven, especially at the beginning, and some titles really suffered. That is clearly apparent here.

The narrative jumps back and forth between the Court of Owl's storyline and the Dollhouse storyline so the book is disjointed and barely coherent. Additional confusion results from the fact that the full Court of Owl's storyline is spread across multiple Bat family titles and what is presented in this book does not make a lot of sense on its own.

The Dollhouse story line, which focuses on abductions and human taxidermy is beyond gross and nowhere near good enough to justify the ick factor.

The one vaguely redeeming factor in this book is that we begin to see Selina transform from a shallow narcissistic thrill freak to a more nuanced character with heroic potential.
